I am excited to share more about an upcoming project I talked about at our recent Room at the Table Breakfast, and to ask for your help in a letter writing and advocacy campaign to help make it a reality.
LCS seeks to build a food hub (warehouse/fulfillment center) adjacent to our facility at 2809 Baynard Blvd. This facility will serve as a hub for aggregating healthy food from various sources, custom packaging it, and distributing it to numerous community outlets.
By doing so, we aim to enhance the operations of the Delaware Food Farmacy—a comprehensive food prescription program operated by LCS in partnership with ChristianaCare. Additionally, the food hub will support school-based pantries, community pantries, LCS' existing pantry network serving over 30,000 individuals annually, and nonprofits that incorporate healthy food into their programs.
The LCS Food Hub will significantly increase our capacity and ability to be a leader in providing healthy food to improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations.
Each year in June the Delaware legislature considers important capital improvement projects that will help the community. LCS has applied for funding this year for our LCS Food Hub. The Joint Committee on Capital Improvement will be deciding which projects to fund.
I am delighted to share that Senator Sarah McBride and Representative Nnamdi Chukwuocha, our 1st District legislators, have already pledged their support for the project.
We are asking if you would please reach out to your local State Senator and Representative to express support for this important project.
Let your elected officials know that you stand firmly behind this project and its potential to improve the lives of countless individuals.
Feel free to utilize the letter template or use it as a base to craft your own message.
Time is of the essence as this matter will be decided soon!
If you need to find your state legislators, enter your Address and City into the site below.
As always, thank you for all that you do to support LCS and our mission. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need additional information.
