On October 13, Brittany and Brian Washburn returned to Lutheran Community Services with a gift straight from the heart, a $10,000 donation to help launch our new Empowerment Fund, which supports program needs that fall outside the traditional budget.
Nearly a decade ago, the Washburns turned to LCS during a difficult chapter. Brian had lost his job, and the young family needed help to get back on their feet. Brittany later shared their story as a featured speaker at our 2015 Room at the Table Breakfast.
Since then, life has come full circle. Brian rebuilt his career and is now a Team Lead in Information Security at Wawa. The family bought their “forever home” in Nottingham, PA, and are raising three children, Caleb, Luke, and baby Felicity, with deep gratitude for the help they once received.
Brittany, who lives with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, recently settled a long 19-year battle with workers’ compensation. Out of that settlement, she and Brian chose to give back to the organization that once gave them hope.
Their generosity will serve as the seed money for the Empowerment Fund, a resource that helps LCS respond quickly and compassionately when needs arise beyond the normal budget.
For the Washburns, it’s more than a donation; it’s a legacy of gratitude and faith. A reminder that when compassion takes root, it continues to grow.
