After starting their home delivery program with DoorDash from their Newark site, the Food Bank of Delaware contacted LCS to ask about offering the same in Wilmington from one of our food pantries. Since St. Stephen’s has space to store food boxes and is open five days a week, they are hosting this pilot program. The Food Bank of Delaware delivered 45 boxes of non-perishable food for a family of four for three days. Each box includes the following: Vegetables (8 items); Fruit (8 items); Protein (5-6 items); Dairy (3-5 items); Grains (4 items); Extras (1 item).

DoorDash deliveries from St. Stephen’s are free for clients. They order a box for home delivery through the Food Bank website, selecting the Wilmington location. The website states that they prefer 24 hours’ notice, but same day deliveries are available during pantry hours (9-11 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday). Clients choose between meat or vegetarian protein options.

After the pilot period, the Food Bank will evaluate the program and decide whether to extend it or not. In the meantime, LCS’ St. Stephen’s pantry gladly serves as host to clients in Wilmington.
